The Van Niekerk Academy of Dance was established in the Stanmore area 12 years ago, by former professional ballet dancer, Suzanne van Niekerk. Suzanne achieved a very high Distinction in all modules of her RAD Teaching Exams. Ballet classes are held for children from age 3 - 18, and Royal Academy of Dance examinations taken.
Suzanne herself started dancing at the age of 3 and attended the Royal Ballet School Junior Associates before going on to the full time vocational Elmhurst Ballet School, where she was picked to represent one of a few British dancers at the highly esteemed ‘Prix De Lausane’ in Switzerland, reaching the semi-finals. She was also privileged to be chosen by Rudolf Nureyev to appear in a triple bill of ‘Petrushka,’ ‘Spectre De La Rose’ and ‘L’Après Midi D’un Faun’ for a London Season whilst he was starring with Ballet de Nancy. She later went on to dance with the London City Ballet, Imperial Ballet and Vienna Festival Ballet Company.
As well as examinations, the students have the opportunity to perform in the school’s dance show.
